the ultimate sacrifice

Last night, D and i we're going to get a babysitter and hit the movie theater. "Invincible", i think, was our top choice this weekend. After a few phone calls that harvested no available Young Woman, we decide to take the whole family and see something together, ya know, make it a family event. They have babysitters all the time, right? This is a great idea. So we all troop on down to the cineplex and on the way we start thinking that if we're going to go do something together we should probably make it count and go ice skating or bowling (always a good idea) or something that requires us to interact more than passing popcorn back and forth. So we deliberate... But O was so ready to Barnyard. He's been saying so since the marketing started 18 months ago. Alright then, Barnyard it is. For the next 98 min, each time a butt joke or some bodily noise/fluid escaped or was referenced, i thought...this is the ultimate sacrifice as a parent. I could have spent my 11 bucks on something i really wanted to see but chose to endure this animated torture instead. Wow. what a good parent i am. I think i deserve an award or a button or something.

At the end of the night the kids were happy and sleepy. Two very good things. We came home and put them to bed and stayed up until midnight watching a rerun of the VMA awards.
