always, always, use a crosswalk

I just saw a man nearly loose his life crossing six lanes of moving traffic in order to catch a bus before it left the bus stop. I replayed the senario 10 times in my head with the man actually getting hit and flying across the intersection. My mind kept thinking about how i would have been a witness. Would I have stayed and helped the man or would i have kept on driving and let someone else deal with it. If i had stayed, i would have had to report to the police/firefighter and others about what happened and that means I wouldn't have been able to pick up Sophie from school. Who would i call to help if i couldn't leave to get her? Also, Is this guy married or have children? He's probably leaving a woman husbandless and his children fatherless for the rest of their lives because he didn't wait for the next bus.

When the light did change i drove slowly through the intersection looking at the imaginary "accident." And i felt very sad. Poor guy. Dead right here in the road. hmmm..........a moment of silence, please. ok, maybe that's a little overboard. But i drove away thinking, the risk just isn't worth it. Next time, he might not be so lucky.
