I was sitting in a pharmacy today waiting for some prescriptions and noticed All My Children playing on TV. Is that the one with Susan lucci? It was the one with susan lucci. anyway, two of the characters were waiting off stage of a 'talk show' hosted by susan lucci's character. I think it was called New Beginnings, which is awesoeme. Anyway. one of the characters was a pretty brunette who was standing with some kind of she-male transvestite who was to be a guest on the show. I think the pretty brunette eventually confessed her love for the she-male on the 'national' talk show. And as i'm marveling at the ridiculousness of soap operas the lady next to me, a 60-something persian woman in huge fakie chanel sunglasses, leans over and asks, "is that a man or a woman?" I answer that i think it's a man and she said, "NO! Oh, tsk, tsk, tsk" She spent the next 20 mintues with her giganto glasses glued to the screen. How many shows get the kind of reaction/devotion. Not many. All My Children will live forever, just like Susan Lucci.

Owen and Breastfeeding

Scott and Karin and their 2 kids are with us for a little vacation this week. Karin is nursing their youngest, little 5mo old Park, and Owen is totally fascinated with the details of the process. Karin is great about it. Their conversation has gone something like this:

Owen: What's he doing?

Karin: Eating.

No he's not.

Yes he is

Where is he eating?

He's eating milk

Where from?

My body.

How does he eat from your body?

My body makes milk after he was born and he drinks it.

Can i see?

Then sophie, who had been moping over not getting a tomogotchi this afternoon started giggling from her homework spot at the kitchen table and says, "Owen, that's what you did when you were a baby." (well, for a little bit, i guess)

Owen says,"Drinked from Mommy's tummy?"

Owen thinks about this and then says, "Mom, I was sleeping when i was drinking from your body."

All of us start laughing because of his funny description and Owen is just hovering, vulture-style trying to catch a glimpse of this mysterious body part that produces milk for babies.

Then i decide to clarify a few things,

"It's called Breastfeeding, Owen. Heavenly Father gave moms breasts (more giggling) people sometimes call them boobs (serious giggling with intermitten snorting) and babies drink milk from them until they can eat regular food.

"Ohhh," he says, "cuz baby tyler was drinking from Beth-es body too. I saw him. He was sleeping and drinking at the same time."

Sophie, still giggling, can't get over that i said boobs to owen says, "This is way better than a Tomogotchi."

p.s. Uncle Scott has the same body as Dad but a different head.

photos from the big trip

The first morning we got there it was FREEZING, but the kids wouldn't get off the ice-laden tramp. Fortunately, it all melted by afternoon.

Four generations at Kate's baptism. It was such a wonderful day. We loved sharing it with her.

So here's an update. I'm sure no one but my family really cares to hear, so i'm putting this up for them. 2 days in duvall, wa and Sophie is ready to move up here. We have been playing basketball, jumping on the trampoline, running in the park, wading in a freezing cold river. We went shopping yesterday and bought birthday presents for all the birthday people, and then finally went rollerskating last night. What an experience to be back in a roller rink. Not much has changed from Classic skating in Utah. Jami and i kept saying that if it wasn't a family owned business, the mid-forties DJ, skate return guy and ticket sales guy should be ashamed of themselves. And i wish i could have taken a pic of the consession stand girl. It was all too classic. I want to put her in a movie someday. As for the kids, they we great on skates. Owen and Zach scooted along holding our hands and then getting braver the longer we were there. Zach skated all my himself to the candy machine, something we found very funny. Sophie and Kate were awesome. We had a blast.

oh, now we're off to pick up grandma olson at the airport.

Let the travel season begin

We made it up to Jami's house and we are so excited to be here. We got in late last night and kids in both families were absolutely dying because everything was just taking too long. Owen was so funny on the plane. He sat down and asked for the information pamphlet, crossed his legs and looked at every picture. When the flight attendant was showing the floatation device he was very interested, "Why do I need that, Mom? What does it do?"

When we left home it was going to be in the 90's. This morning we woke up to lots of fog, chilly temperatures and dew clinging to every branch in the forest behind their house. it's a forest....i wouldn't lie. Sophie found ice on their trampoline this morning. How great it feels to be somewhere different.

Will post pics soon. And, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KELLY. The big - 27? Whoa.
